REFUGEES AND MIGRANTS

The representatives of leading refugee-assisting NGOs and international organizations participated in the Forum. The main speakers were: Senior Regional Legal Counselor of the UNHCR’s office to Ukraine Roland Weil, Deputy Director of the Centre for Legal and Legislative Reforms Valentyna Subotenko, representative of the Serbian Council for Refugees Anika Krstic and representative of the Coalition HIV-servicing NGOs Helena Davis.

Among the issues discussed during the Forum there were: changes in the Ukrainian legislation in respect of refugees and asylum seekers; rules, regulating execution of European Court’s judgements as well as application of EU judicial practice in Ukraine; judicial practice of Ukrainian courts in respect of asylum seekers; necessity of migration amnesty in Ukraine; legal aspects of social aid to refugees. Coordinator of the well-known Ukrainian human rights NGO – Vinnitsa Human Rights Group, Dmytro Groisman raised a problem of illegal deportation of Uzbek refugees from Ukraine and responsibility of Ukrainian authorities for this crime.

The was separately discussed issue at the Forum concerning possibility of creation of the Ukrainian Council for Refugees in order to unite efforts and coordinate Refugee-assisting NGOs activity in Ukraine.
