“Family dispute” and “domestic violence.” Are these concepts identical and what threat should we expect from them?

It was on these principles that a short lecture for the unemployed was based, which was held on June 11 at the Chernihiv branch of the Chernihiv Regional Employment Center by Iryna Biryuk, a lawyer of the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, as of 2023, the police received about 300 thousand applications and reports of domestic violence, which indicates the progressive nature of violence as a phenomenon, because this is a quarter more than last year’s figures. Today, in the era of the latest digital technologies, the problem of violence is becoming more widely known, but, unfortunately, it is not possible to completely eradicate this phenomenon, so right now it is extremely necessary to warn and inform society about the problem of violence, its causes and, directly, the consequences it leads to.
During the event, participants had the opportunity to:
– get acquainted with the concept of “violence”;
– identify and recognize its 4 main types;
– identify the reasons that cause violence;
– learn to distinguish myths, stereotypes and facts about DV/GBV;
– to highlight the main differences in the concepts of “family conflict” and domestic violence”;
– finally, of course, to familiarize yourself with the hotline numbers that anyone who suffers from violence or anyone who needs psychological support can contact.
During the event, the participants actively discussed and presented arguments regarding this problem, and at the end of the lecture they joined the discussion, during which they received the desired answers to their questions.
