LEGAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE UNEMPLOYED

The Director of the Chernihiv City Employment Center, Oleksandr Zevchenko, welcomed the opening of the Center for Legal Assistance for Unemployed Women. He noted that recently there have been more and more cases of violation of labor legislation, especially by employers who openly discriminate against the unemployed, especially women. The unemployed, in turn, are unable to adequately respond to these harassments due to low legal culture and poor knowledge of labor legislation. Women who have lost their jobs, for the most part, are unable to understand our very complex legislation on their own. And they simply do not have enough money to seek legal advice. Therefore, the activities of the Center for Legal Assistance will help the unemployed who will contact the Chernihiv City Employment Center.
The main tasks of the Center’s activities:
•
providing free assistance to unemployed women from the position of equal opportunities to restore violated rights in the field of labor relations and assistance in resolving labor conflicts with employers, including using a “hot” telephone line;
•
increasing women’s legal knowledge by publishing and distributing information materials containing information on legal methods for resolving the most typical violations by employers related to women’s rights, gender equality in the workplace, or sexual harassment by colleagues or management;
•
direct work with employers to prevent violations of labor legislation and gender equality in relation to employees;
•
explanatory and educational work with unemployed women to prevent human trafficking and their transfer to other countries for the purpose of illegal exploitation.
The Center for Legal Assistance to Unemployed Women in Chernihiv is located at: Chernihiv, Gorkogo St. 57 from 10:00 to 16:00. Telephone hotline: (0462) 612-532.
The project is implemented with the support of the Endowment for Democracy of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
