COUNTERACTION AGAINST RACISM

Recently, a process has been observed when people with significant mental disabilities have begun not only to engage in calls for the eviction or humiliation of people of non-title nationality, but also to call for the ban and crackdown on activists and public organizations that provide protection and support to vulnerable groups of the population. Some so-called “activists” who have all the signs of mental health trauma have recently been spreading false and humiliating information with the desire to provoke an inadequate reaction from human rights defenders. Now they have moved on to more active actions.

On the night of April 12-13, 2009, the office of the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights was covered with anti-Semitic and xenophobic graffiti and images. This event once again proves that the committee’s statements about the activation of fascist and racist groups in the Chernihiv region are true.

People with “non-white skin color” are being attacked in the city, right-wing activists are blowing themselves up with their own bombs, and the offices of human rights organizations are being attacked with a clear basis

of persecution for their activities in defense of refugees and migrants.

We appeal to the city’s public to support human rights defenders in their efforts to stop the open deployment of a racist network in the city and the persecution of persons of non-title nationality.

We once again appeal to the law enforcement officers of the region to begin their activities in accordance with the instructions of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine to prevent the activities of all groups that operate with the aim of persecuting persons on racial or national grounds.

The Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights has filed relevant applications with the police and the SBU.
