Representatives of the Ombudsman and the United Nations Children’s Fund inspected the Pryluky correctional colony

The Pryluky Correctional Colony of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine in Chernihiv region was visited by specialists from the United Nations Children’s Fund “UNICEF” and representatives of the Office of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights and the National Preventive Mechanism.

The monitoring visit to the educational institution was carried out by Petro Kolyada – Head of the Department for the Implementation of the National Preventive Mechanism of the Secretariat of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, Aksana Filipishyna – Representative of the Commissioner for the Rights of the Child, Non-Discrimination and Gender Equality, representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund “UNICEF” – Ruslana Sirman and Marianna Nerhi, representatives of human rights organizations – Oksana Moskalenko and Viktor Tarasov.

During the visits to the institutions, the living and educational conditions of children, their employment, the realization of their right to communicate with parents and relatives, as well as issues related to the social and psychological adaptation of children, including orphans and children deprived of parental care, and individuals from among them, after their release, were studied.

The monitors also had the opportunity to personally communicate with minors and identify facts regarding the improper maintenance of children, which, in turn, leads to a violation of their rights and interests.
