The “POLiS” (“Police and Community”) project is being implemented in Chernihiv

On September 16, 2016, the “POLiS” (“Police and Community”) program was presented at the Chernihiv City Library named after M.M. Kotsiubynskyi, the purpose of which is to establish interaction between the police and the community by holding joint events in the city of Chernihiv.

The partner organizations of “POLiS” in Chernihiv (NGO “Center for Interaction”, NGO “MART”, NGO “Center for Prevention “Vybir”, City Library named after M.M. Kotsiubynskyi, City Library for Children named after O.P. Dovzhenko, Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights) presented a plan of joint events that will be implemented with the support and in cooperation with the patrol police. Many events will be held at the Chernihiv City Centralized Library System or in the city’s schools.

Thus, various types of activities are planned for different target groups. For example, for primary, secondary and high school students, the program’s partner organizers will hold quests, tournaments, drawing auctions, joint meetings with police officers, etc.

For students, a “Living Library” and “Legal Theater” will be held, where participants will be able to learn more about police activities, their rights and responsibilities, as well as get answers to their questions directly from a patrol police officer.

City residents can get to know and communicate with police officers better at joint field receptions and at the “Tea Party with Patrol Police”.

“The Patrol Police Department supported the all-Ukrainian initiative “POLiS”, which is being implemented in our city. Since today the establishment of cooperation between the police and the community is very important. By holding various joint events, informing residents about police activities, we will also be able to understand the expectations and requests of citizens from the patrol police” – noted

, senior inspector of the press service of the UPP in the city of Chernihiv.

All events within the framework of “POLiS” have already been planned from October to February next year. The organizers will inform city residents about the events on their websites and through the media.

In addition, partner organizations will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Patrol Police Department in the city of Chernihiv, which will specify all agreements regarding the holding of joint events.

“We are convinced that the implementation of the “POLiS” program in our city will help to increase not only trust in the police, but also the awareness of citizens. Since the stereotype “My house is in the countryside…” must become a thing of the past. And if a crime is committed, then everyone’s public duty is to prevent it by reporting it to the police. This is where the cooperation between the police and the community begins,” emphasized during a press conference the representative of the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights
