Voter’s alphabet for voting day

On Sunday, May 25, 2014, early elections of the President of Ukraine will be held. And in some regions of our country, local elections will also be held at the same time. In particular, in the Chernihiv region, the mayors of Nizhyn, Pryluk, and Baturyn will be elected. Therefore, this material will tell you what a voter who comes to his polling station on voting day should know.
When to vote?
Voting will be held on May 25 from 08:00 to 20:00 without a break. That is, those who come to vote at 20:01 and later will no longer be able to do so.
Where to vote?
You can vote either at the polling station to which you belong at the place of your registration, or at the one to which you have temporarily changed your voting place.
If you cannot appear at the polling station yourself due to your age, health condition or disability, you have the right to vote at your place of residence.
What document gives you the right to receive a ballot?
When going to the polling station, do not forget to take with you your passport of a citizen of Ukraine. If you are a person who has recently been granted citizenship of Ukraine, take a temporary certificate of a citizen of Ukraine. If you are a conscript, you can receive a ballot by providing your military ID. By presenting one of these documents to a member of the PEC, you will receive a ballot to vote.
Neither a driver’s license, nor a student ID card, nor any kind of “status” certificates (pension, service, etc.) are documents on the basis of which they will be able to issue you a ballot.
What is the procedure for obtaining a ballot?
When you arrive at your polling station and go directly to the voting room, you will need to find a sign with the name of the street and the number of your house and go to the appropriate table. Show your document to the PEC member. If you are on the voter list at this polling station, sign in the appropriate column to confirm receipt of the ballot.
At this time, another member of the election commission must enter your last name, initials, sign and the number under which you are entered in the voter list at the polling station on the ballot control slip. Then he will give you a ballot for signature. Sign in the designated place on the control slip and hand the ballot to the PEC member.
After the election commission member separates the control slip from the ballot, you can take the ballot and go to the booth for secret voting.
Please note that no one has made any marks directly on the ballot, except for those indicated above. Otherwise, your ballot may not be taken into account when counting the votes.
Not on the voter list on voting day – you will not be able to vote
It is worth remembering that on voting day, changes to the updated voter list will not be made under any circumstances. Therefore, if you did not check yourself on the voter list in advance and on voting day it turns out that you were not included, you will not be able to vote. Even if you go to court.
Technical errors are not grounds for refusing to issue a ballot
If it turns out that your personal data was entered in the voter list with an error (incorrectly spelled last name, first name, patronymic, date of birth, house number, apartment of residence), then you will be able to vote. But on condition that, despite such technical errors, it is clear that you are included in the voter list.
How to fill out a ballot?
You fill out the ballot yourself by placing a “plus” (“+”) mark or other mark indicating your vote in the box opposite the name of the candidate for President.
You can vote for only one candidate. If you do not put any mark or vote for two or more, the ballot will be considered invalid.
We remind you that in these elections the ballot will not have the column “I do not support any candidate for the post of President of Ukraine”. Therefore, you must clearly define your vote.
Who can be in the voting booth?
You may be alone in the voting booth, except in cases where you cannot fill out the ballot paper yourself due to physical disabilities. In order to vote in such a case, you have the right to use the help of another voter, except for members of the election commission, candidates for the post of President, their proxies, official observers, having notified the head or another member of the PEC about this.
Demonstrating your will at the polling station is prohibited!
It is prohibited to demonstrate your completed ballot paper in the voting room, as well as to photograph it, videotape it in any way in the booth for secret voting.
Made a mistake in the ballot – it can be replaced once
If you accidentally spoil the ballot or make a mistake in it, you have the right to replace it once. To do this, you need to immediately apply in writing to the member of the election commission who issued the ballot, with a request to issue another one. Usually, samples of such applications are available at the commission.
Another ballot is issued only in exchange for an incorrectly filled out one. In this case, in the voter list opposite the name of the voter who made a mistake when filling out the ballot, the authorized member of the PEC makes a corresponding mark about issuing a ballot in exchange for the actually spoiled one. The PEC member certifies this mark with his signature.
Can a voter remain at the polling station after voting?
Having dropped the ballot into the box, you must leave the polling station. Since a voter can only be at the polling station for the time necessary for him to vote.
How do voters vote “at home”?
If you vote at your place of residence (“at home”), the procedure for issuing you a ballot is similar. It is provided by at least three members of the PEC. But remember that voters who will vote “at home” do not have the right to replace the ballot if they have spoiled it.
During the voting of voters at their place of residence, in addition to the commission members, candidates for the post of President of Ukraine, their proxies, and official observers have the right to be present. Neither you nor your family members can prohibit the presence of these persons. Otherwise, you will not be able to vote. At the same time, the presence of these persons cannot violate your right to the secrecy of the vote.
If simultaneously with the presidential elections, local
If simultaneously with the presidential elections, a mayor or a deputy of the local council will be elected in your territorial district, you should be given the appropriate number of ballot papers (all of them will be of different colors). The voting procedure is similar to the one indicated above.
If you have temporarily changed your place of voting, but do not belong to this territorial community by “registration”, then you will only vote for the President. You will not be given other ballot papers.
