Lawyers and human rights defenders of Chernihiv region participated in a training on legal support for IDPs and victims of war

On September 20, 2023, a training “Legal Support for War-Affected Population Categories, Volunteer Initiatives and Local Civil Society Organizations” was held in Chernihiv for local lawyers, representatives of public organizations and employees of centers/bureaus providing free legal aid.
The participants of the event identified problematic issues regarding the provision of free legal aid to various categories of the population in accordance with the legislation.
During the event, lawyers focused on the “new” entities providing free secondary legal aid and practical issues of implementing the Law of Ukraine “On Free Legal Aid”. Separately, they spoke about the need to redirect clients to public organizations in case it is impossible to provide such assistance to applicants.
The training also discussed the challenges faced by lawyers, volunteers, and representatives of free legal aid centers in wartime. Separately, human rights activists emphasized the need to provide effective, efficient, and comprehensive assistance to victims of domestic violence.
The training “Legal Support for War-Victims, Volunteer Initiatives, and Local Civil Society Organizations” was organized by the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights and the All-Ukrainian Coalition for Legal Aid as part of the implementation of the project “Strengthening Democratic Governance in Central and Northern Ukraine” with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy.
