On July 22, a training session “Protection of the Rights of Victims of Domestic Violence” was held in Chernihiv for representatives of territorial communities of Chernihiv region as part of the project “Activation of Local Communities to Combat Domestic Violence”.

.

Ms. Edieva emphasized that one of the objectives of the project is to pilot a network of advisors (public officers) to combat gender and domestic violence in local communities.

Advisors (community officers) should play the role of mediators between local residents suffering from domestic violence and public organizations, police and legal aid providers to effectively assist victims.

As part of the training, community representatives received the necessary knowledge about the concept of domestic violence, forms, causes and conditions of its manifestations, the legal basis for preventing and combating domestic violence, the interaction of the police with other state and non-state organizations in the system of providing comprehensive assistance to victims, as well as effective mechanisms for responding to domestic violence in accordance with the current legislation of Ukraine.

The activists also raised the issue of the relevance of creating a crisis room or shelter for victims of domestic violence in the Chernihiv region.

The participants of the training agreed on the next thematic meeting, which will directly concern the practical application of legislation in work and judicial practice.

The event is organized within the framework of the project “Activation of local communities to combat domestic violence” with the support of the Human Rights House Foundation and the European Union, implemented by the All-Ukrainian Coalition for Legal Aid.
