Law enforcement officers and local community specialists strengthen capacity to combat gender-based violence

A series of trainings for social workers, educators, and police officers on the topic “Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in Local Communities” was held in Chernihiv.
The trainer was
Viktor Valchuk
, a national expert on prevention and response to domestic and gender-based violence.
During the training, participants were able to learn more about the characteristic features of domestic violence, such as: systematicity of actions, infliction of harm, perpetration by persons who share a common life, rights and obligations, and place of residence.
A separate block considered the issues of bringing perpetrators to administrative and criminal liability, the mandatory risk assessment of victims of domestic violence, and discussed in detail the practical aspects of imposing urgent restraining orders.
In addition, experts and law enforcement officers worked on practical tasks based on real cases. The purpose of this section was to develop practical skills in identifying cases of domestic violence and develop an algorithm of actions aimed at providing comprehensive assistance to a victim of domestic violence, including involving other specialized structures.
“I learned a lot of new regulatory and legal documents that I will use in my work from now on!”
“I gained knowledge about many nuances of current legislation for the effective performance of my work as a police officer.”
These are just a few reviews of today’s specialized training for police representatives and community specialists on responding to cases of gender-based violence, including domestic violence.
“A victim-centered approach to service is not just words, it is timely decisions and measures taken for the effective, efficient and immediate protection of a person who has suffered from domestic violence
“, – notes the training trainer
Viktor Valchuk
.
