The process of implementing School Understanding Services has started in Chernihiv

On September 25, students of grades 9-10 were selected to participate in the training “Basic Skills of a Mediator of School Understanding Services”. 3 pilot schools in the city of Chernihiv are participating in the program for the introduction of this approach, where after the students have completed the relevant training, School Understanding Services will be introduced.
During the 4-day training, participants will be able to master conflict resolution techniques, effective cooperation and communication. After completing the training, student mediators will be able to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in practice, helping their peers resolve their disputes peacefully and through negotiations.
Understanding services are already successfully operating in many cities of the country. In Chernihiv, this is a pilot project initiated by the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights within the framework of the project “Safe Chernihiv – a common interest, a common responsibility” with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
“Mediation is a powerful tool for resolving conflicts and establishing constructive dialogue, which is recognized worldwide. The skills of the future are the ability to conduct quality negotiations, make decisions and not succumb to stress. Therefore, it is extremely important to transfer these skills, starting from childhood and school years,” emphasizes the project manager
Kateryna Dankova
