“Green Rooms” for children have been launched in two territorial police units in the Chernihiv region

The full application of the “Green Room” methodology, aimed at conducting police interviews or interrogations of children while avoiding re-traumatizing their psyche, is now possible in the Nizhyn District Police Department and the Koryukiv District Police Department.

The project was implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Program and the NGO “Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights”.

The compliance of the newly created premises with the declared principles of organizing investigative actions with a child, regardless of their procedural status, in a child-friendly environment was checked by the Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the region, Ihor Volokytenko. Together with him, the “green rooms” were inspected by the head of the “Public Safety and Social Cohesion” department of the United Nations Development Program for Recovery and Peacebuilding, Federica Dispensa, UNDP representatives, and the head of programs of the NGO “Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights” Natalia Kulikova.

“Green rooms” are equipped to maximize the implementation of the formula for effective interaction with a child. This formula contains the following components: “safe place” and “safe adult”, which in total consolidates the child’s feeling that he is safe. For this purpose, the interior of the room is made in green colors and filled with toys, writing utensils, “anti-stress” coloring books, etc.

The “Green Rooms” were set up by the NGO “Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights” with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine within the framework of the project “EU4Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine” with financial support from the European Union.
