Activists were taught “information hygiene” in public activities

A training on the topic: “Information Security in Public Activities” was held in Chernihiv for employees and volunteers of the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights.
The trainer of the event was a leading Chernihiv media expert, public activist and journalist
Oleksandr Rys
.
Human rights defenders received a number of practical tips on how to secure their workplace and not become the object of a hacker attack or a victim of phishing.
In particular, the training covered the following topics:
– Protecting email from hacking;
– Deleting data from a computer, protecting important files;
– Security of Internet conversations, use of variable IP addresses;
– Tools that guarantee anonymity on the Internet;
– Security of mobile conversations. Protection against eavesdropping;
– External surveillance;
– Information protection in the editorial office, etc.
The expert also spoke about the risks and possible “traps” that inattentive Internet users fall into during hybrid warfare and hostile propaganda.
“We live in a world of a frantic flow of various information. It has a significant impact on all spheres of our lives. We consume a large amount of information every day, so we must learn to be critical of it, to separate the main and secondary, to be able to analyze and interpret it, – noted
Oleksandr Rys
».
The participants of the training agreed that volunteers and activists who know how to analyze news are less inclined to believe and spread disinformation, fakes and manipulative information, which contributes to the creation of an objective information environment.
The training was held within the framework of the project “Protection and support of victims of gender-based violence in war conditions in Chernihiv region”, which is implemented by the NGO “Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights” within the framework of the “Capable and Strong” program, implemented by the Eastern Europe Foundation with the support of Switzerland.
