ANNOUNCEMENT: European Day Against Human Trafficking in Chernihiv

On October 18, 2017, in Chernihiv, public activists and representatives of government agencies will hold an information and educational campaign under the slogan “Danger is not immediately visible!” on the occasion of the European Day for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings.

The event is aimed at drawing the attention of the public and the media to the problem of human trafficking in the regions.

The political and economic situation in Ukraine has negatively affected all spheres of society. Combating human trafficking is not defined as a priority activity, although 2017 has been declared the year of combating human trafficking. In this regard, there is a need to draw attention to this problem with renewed vigor. Ukraine remains a country of supply, transit and has become a country of destination – cases of human trafficking have also been recorded within Ukraine. This also applies to residents of Chernihiv region, which is one of the leaders in labor migration.

As part of the All-Ukrainian campaign, mass events will be held in different regions of Ukraine. During the event, it is planned to distribute printed materials on the relevant topic, actively interact with the organizers and the media, promote the number of the National Free Hotline for Combating Human Trafficking and Consulting Migrants (

– free for landline users and mobile operators) and a symbolic launch of balloons as a sign of support for the processes of reducing human trafficking in Europe.

The event is held by the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights with the support of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ukraine and in cooperation with the Department of Family, Youth and Sports of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, the Department of Family, Youth and Sports of the Chernihiv City Council, the Chernihiv City Center for Social Services for Family, Children and Youth, the Chernihiv Border Guard Unit, the Department of the State Migration Service in Chernihiv Oblast, the Main Department of the National Police of Ukraine in Chernihiv Oblast.

In Chernihiv, the action will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in the square between the Ukraine Hotel and the Main Post Office, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
