Chernihiv police learned about the “Ukrainian sheriffs”

On December 15, 2016, in Chernihiv, as part of the 13th International Traveling Documentary Film Festival on Human Rights Docudays UA, the documentary film “Ukrainian Sheriffs” was presented to the police. The event was attended by both employees of the Main Department of the National Police of the Chernihiv Region and the Patrol Police Department in the city of Chernihiv.
The film’s plot tells about the residents of the village of Staraya Zbur’ivka, Kherson Region, in particular about two men who took on the functions of protecting public order. 50-year-old Viktor Kryvoborodko and 44-year-old Volodymyr Rudkovsky combine the duties of law enforcement agencies and social workers: they settle family quarrels, stop fights between neighbors, search for drowned people, etc. – that is, they deal with everything except criminal crimes.
After watching the film, the participants had the opportunity to discuss the film.
As noted by the head of programs of the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights
Kateryna Dankova
, the main task of the event was to show, using the example of this film, that the public is ready to cooperate with the police and implement joint measures in the field of crime prevention, ensuring proper law and order and public safety in the community.
