Children’s Day in Chernihiv Women’s Colony

Charity events dedicated to the International Children’s Day were held in Chernihiv Correctional Colony No. 44, where the Children’s House operates. Children are our most precious treasure, our joy and our hope. They are the future of our state. The duty of the state, family, school, authorities and the public is to do everything possible to protect children from the bitterness of disappointment and despair, to create decent conditions for children to live and develop.
On June 1, 2012 – on International Children’s Day, charity events dedicated to the International Children’s Day were held in Chernihiv Correctional Colony No. 44. This institution operates a Children’s House, which currently houses 24 children.
In Ukraine, there are two institutions of the penal system, where about 130 children under the age of three are kept together with their mothers – these are the Chernihiv and Odesa women’s correctional colonies. According to the existing rules, starting from January 21, 2010, convicted women have the right to live in the Children’s Home together with their child, and those who did not express a desire to live together have the right to communicate with their children without restrictions.
The Children’s Home at the Chernihiv Correctional Colony has all the conditions necessary for the normal life and development of a child.
Caring for children who, unfortunately, without a court verdict, are serving their sentences together with their mothers who have committed a crime – should become one of the areas of work of the public, which is concerned about the future of its state.
Members of the Chernihiv City Supervisory Commission: representatives of the Chernihiv Women’s Human Rights Center (director Alla Lepeha) and the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights (director Viktor Tarasov) used the collected charitable funds to purchase and hand over to the colony management fruits, juices, sweets and hygiene products.
The educators of the Children’s Home together with the children prepared a festive concert for the guests.
Today, penal institutions have a well-defined social task: the moral revival of people who have committed crimes and are serving sentences. It is practically impossible to carry out this process without the involvement of public institutions. That is why representatives of the Chernihiv City Supervisory Commission have been participating in charitable events dedicated to the International Day for the Protection of Children, which are held in the women’s colony, on June 1 for many years.
