Human rights activists from Chernihiv region participated in a training on legal support for IDPs and victims of war

A training session “Access to Justice and Legal Support for War-Stricken Population Categories” was held in Chernihiv for local lawyers and employees of free legal aid centers.

As part of the training, the participants of the event identified problematic issues regarding the provision of free legal aid to various categories of the population in accordance with current legislation.

During the event, the lawyers focused on the “new” entities providing free legal aid and practical issues of implementing the Law of Ukraine “On Free Legal Aid”. They also spoke about the need to refer clients to public organizations if it is impossible to provide such assistance to applicants.

The training also discussed the challenges faced by lawyers, volunteers, and representatives of free legal aid centers in wartime. In particular, human rights activists emphasized the need to provide effective, efficient, and comprehensive assistance to victims of domestic violence.

The project “Enhancing Access to Justice in War-Affected Communities of Chernihiv Oblast” is implemented by the NGO “Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights” under the technical administration of ISAR Unity and assistance of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine with the financial support of the European Union provided within the framework of the project “EU4Recovery – Empowering Communities in Ukraine”.
