“Human Rights Day in Chernihiv” – presentation of research and opening of the thematic exhibition

A large-scale sociological survey on how Ukrainians understand human rights will be presented in Chernihiv. As part of the event “Human Rights Day in Your City”, a thematic exhibition will open on one of the Chernihiv squares. Also on this day, a discussion of the results of the study with journalists and public activists will take place.
On December 11, the Human Rights Information Center

the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine
will hold “Human Rights Day in Your City” in Chernihiv and present the results of the nationwide sociological survey
“What Ukrainians Know and Think About Human Rights”
.
The organizers of the event will tell whether Ukrainians, in particular Chernihiv residents, know what human rights are, which rights are a priority for them, how they protect their rights, etc. The topic will also be the impact of the military conflict on the perception of human rights and whether, in the opinion of the respondents, the situation with human rights has changed since the Euromaidan.
Chernihiv is the first city in the regional tour “Human Rights Day in Your City”. Similar actions are planned in Lviv, Odessa, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Mariupol.

in the premises of the Chernihiv City Council (7 Magistratska St., 2nd floor, City Council meeting hall)
a press conference
will be held, at which the organizers will present the main conclusions of the study. The speakers will also talk about the recommendations that should be taken based on its results.

After the press conference, the participants will be transported by bus to the exhibition venue.
Opening of the exhibition

1:00 a thematic exposition will be installed on the square in front of the Megacenter shopping center
: six colored cube structures, illustrated with the most important data from the study – graphs, quotes, conclusions and recommendations. Regional features in the respondents’ answers are presented in relation to five regions of Ukraine – West, East, South, Donbas and Center (in particular, Chernihiv region).
An information tent will also operate on the square. Interested citizens will be told about the survey and the activities of human rights organizations, which can be contacted for free assistance.
Discussion
From 18:00 to 20:00 in the Educational House of Human Rights (Luhovy Lane, 1G, Kolychivka village, Chernihiv district)
a presentation of the study will be held for local human rights defenders and public activists
. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the survey results in an informal atmosphere.
A free bus will depart from the square in front of the Megacenter shopping center (49 Myru Avenue) to the discussion venue at 5:30 p.m. After the event, the bus will take participants back to the square.
The goal of the “Human Rights Day in Your City” project is to raise awareness of human rights and encourage citizens to more actively protect their rights, as well as to form the legal consciousness of Ukrainians.

The study was conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Human Rights Information Center at the initiative of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Commissioner for Human Rights and with the support of UNDP in Ukraine. Over 2,000 respondents from all over Ukraine participated in the survey.
