Human rights defenders strengthen capacity to protect the rights of IDPs and victims of war

A training for Ukrainian practicing lawyers “Protection and restoration of the rights of internally displaced persons and victims of armed conflict. Combating domestic violence and sexual violence during armed conflict” was held in Transcarpathia.
The event was organized within the framework of the project “Protection of the Human Rights of Victims of the War in Ukraine”, implemented by the NGO “Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights” with the support of the Embassy of Germany in Ukraine.

Within the framework of the rich program, the training participants worked in the following areas:
– Interaction with victims during the armed conflict. Identification of the issues and strengthening the capacities of human rights defenders. Groups of participants worked on the following issues: “Who is a victim during the armed conflict? Are the concepts of “victim” and “victim” identical? They identified key concepts. They reviewed the psychological aspects of the impact of war.
– Protection and representation of interests of internally displaced persons. In this block, the audience worked with the issues of the legal “status” of IDPs, obtaining an IDP certificate. Algorithms for restoring lost documents were developed. A separate block considered labor rights under martial law.
– The issue of domestic violence: what should human rights defenders consider? Participants got acquainted with the topic of domestic violence, learned about the key differences between violence and conflict. They built strategies for representing victims, and talked about the “Chain of Justice”.
– Sexual violence during armed conflict: features of identification and qualification, strategies for representing victims. Working with evidence.
The organizers and participants of the training agreed on further joint actions for coordination and cooperation in resolving and redirecting important strategic cases related to sexual violence during armed conflict in Ukraine.
