HUMAN RIGHTS IN BELARUS

The event aroused great interest among the participants, as it consisted of both theoretical classes and a practical part, during which it was possible to get acquainted with the international experience of building good governance in a fairly broad sense. The topic of freedom of information was studied separately. In particular, the school participants learned how to write information requests to various authorities. In general, the experts conducted quite original practical classes that allowed human rights defenders to look at various problems of socio-political life from different angles and draw certain conclusions about the effectiveness of certain methods of activity.

The school participants were particularly interested in the program of meetings and visits to the authorities of the Chernihiv region. Belarusian human rights activists had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Chernihiv region, which was presented by the Assistant Minister of Internal Affairs for Human Rights in the Chernihiv region Alla Lepekha. The participants learned about the current state of reform and development of local executive bodies during a visit to the Chernihiv regional state administration. The school participants also had the opportunity to get acquainted with the exhibition dedicated to the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in the Chernihiv region. During the visits, there was a constant exchange of views and lively discussion of common problems.
This event is the next stage of the joint activities of the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights and the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, which involves promoting the development of civil society in the Republic of Belarus and developing cooperation between the third sector of this country and colleagues from Ukraine.
