In Chernihiv, future election observers were trained at special polling stations

On July 3, 2019, a training for public activists on monitoring the electoral process and observing voting at special polling stations in Chernihiv region was held.
During the event, participants had the opportunity to learn about the legislative standards for organizing fair and free elections, the features of the organizational and legal support of the electoral process at special polling stations, the specifics of voting in penitentiary and medical institutions, and considered problematic aspects of preventing voting disruption, combating unfair practices in elections, and the reasons for declaring elections invalid.
The trainer of the event, an expert on electoral issues
Volodymyr Andriychenko
, emphasized the importance of the role of public activists and independent observers in ensuring the free and transparent expression of the will of vulnerable categories of voters. In his opinion, such training events allow activists and volunteers to be better prepared for the difficult electoral process and non-standard situations that may arise during voting in medical and penitentiary institutions.
According to the Law of Ukraine “On Elections of People’s Deputies of Ukraine”, special polling stations are intended for the organization and conduct of voting by voters, in particular, in stationary healthcare institutions, in penal institutions and pre-trial detention centers and other places of temporary stay of voters with limited mobility. In total, 40 permanent special polling stations have been created in Chernihiv region, of which 36 are located in inpatient medical institutions and 4 in penal institutions, as well as 2 temporary special polling stations in the Chernihiv and Novgorod-Siverskyi detention centers.
The event was organized by the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights with the support of the Democracy Promotion Foundation of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
