In Chernihiv, young trainers will teach their peers mediation skills

A new group of high school students and social workers from Chernihiv schools underwent training in facilitator training as part of the training “Basic Skills of a School Mediator Understanding Service”.
The organizer was the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights, which set itself the task of training future trainers for the systematic implementation of School Mediation Services in most educational institutions of the city and region.
Such training allows you to prepare specialists who will not only have the skills of a mediator themselves, but will also be able to pass them on to others, educating new generations of mediators. This role is very important, because over time, trained mediators gradually graduate from school and their experience, so as not to be lost, must be passed on to younger ones. On the other hand, this role is also very responsible, since it is the facilitator who has the difficult task of not only interesting and inspiring future mediators, but also transferring all the necessary knowledge and skills.
During the training, the participants had the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills needed by a facilitator: planning a training, working with a group, responding to difficult situations, applying the active learning model, etc. In addition, each of the participants was able to demonstrate their own coaching skills and receive appropriate feedback from the trainer of the NGO “Institute of Peace and Understanding”
Elizaveta Koval
.
According to
Elizaveta Koval
: “Mediation is a method of resolving a conflict that is confidential, voluntary and takes place with the participation of a third neutral party – a mediator. During the 4-day training, we managed to form a real team of trainers who will be able to transfer their knowledge to other schools that want to create a School Understanding Service in their own schools.
Upon completion of the training, all participants in the training received certificates.
According to the program manager of the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights
Kateryna Dankova
, in October the organization plans to hold the next series of trainings “Basic Mediator Skills” for a number of other schools in the Chernihiv region. Therefore, some of the graduates of this training, together with an experienced trainer, will be able to help prepare the next generation of student mediators who will form an effective School Understanding Service, – Kateryna Dankova is convinced
