Law enforcement officers in Chernihiv region are strengthening their capacity to identify and investigate cases of war-related sexual violence

At the end of September, a training session was held for employees of the Main Police Department in Chernihiv Oblast on the topic “Identification and investigation of cases of sexual violence, including conflict-related, and referral of victims for assistance.”

The main goal of the training was to raise awareness among participants about violence, its nature, causes and consequences, and to develop skills for effective cooperation between actors implementing measures to combat and prevent sexual and gender-based violence (GBV).

The event covered several aspects, including: case identification, recording of offenses, current legislation regulating the issue of gender-based and conflict-related sexual violence (GBSV), methods of working with victims that will guarantee them assistance and safety.

During practical tasks, participants actively answered the questions posed, developed algorithms for working with victims, discussed national legislation on GBV and the procedure that can be applied to perpetrators, discussed an action plan based on real cases, and created an effective mechanism for assistance in the event of violence.

The project is implemented with the support of the Press, Education, and Culture Section of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
