Legal aid providers and child rights workers in Cherihiv region were trained to combat domestic violence

On March 19 and 20, 2019, trainings were held for legal aid providers and representatives of children’s services and specialists working with families and children in the united territorial communities of Chernihiv region on the topic “Prevention and counteraction to domestic violence. Identification and referral of persons affected by domestic violence”.
The topic of domestic violence is currently relevant not only in Chernihiv region. The trainer of the UN Population Fund, Viktor Valchuk, drew the attention of those present to the relevance of the problem, causes and consequences, direct and indirect signs (indicators) that indicate manifestations of various forms of domestic violence, the impact on child development and cycles of domestic violence.
The participants of the trainings studied the norms of the legislation and the algorithm of joint actions of the subjects in case of detecting a case of violence. In addition, they got acquainted with the real stories of the victims, practiced the skills of identifying direct and indirect manifestations of various forms of domestic violence using specific examples, and learned how to professionally conduct conversations with persons who have suffered from abuse.
The trainings were organized by the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights in cooperation with the Legal Development Network, the Children’s Service of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration and the Regional Center for the Provision of Free Criminal Legal Aid in the Chernihiv Region within the framework of the project “Strengthening the Legal Capacity of Communities in the Chernihiv Region” with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.
