Medical institutions of Chernihiv region are preparing for voting at special polling stations

On July 5, 2019, a training was held for responsible employees of inpatient medical institutions of the Chernihiv region, in which special polling stations have been established.

During the event, participants had the opportunity to learn about the legislative standards for organizing fair and free elections, the features of the organizational and legal support of the electoral process at special polling stations. Separately, problematic aspects of the formation of voter lists and extracts from the voter list in medical institutions, the features of the work of medical workers, observers and members of election commissions during the voting of voters who are unable to move independently in hospital wards were considered.

The trainer of the event, an expert on electoral issues

Volodymyr Andriychenko

, emphasized the importance of the role of responsible employees of stationary medical institutions in ensuring the free and transparent expression of will of vulnerable categories of voters. In his opinion, such training events allow medical workers to be better prepared for the difficult electoral process and non-standard situations that may arise during voting in medical institutions.

According to the Law of Ukraine “On Elections of the President of Ukraine”, special polling stations are intended for the organization and conduct of voting by voters, in particular, in stationary health care institutions, in penal institutions and pre-trial detention centers and other places of temporary stay of voters with limited mobility.

In total, 40 permanent special polling stations have been created in Chernihiv region, of which 36 are located in inpatient medical institutions and 4 in penal institutions, as well as 2 temporary special polling stations in the pre-trial detention centers of Chernihiv and Novgorod-Siversky.

The event was organized by the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights as part of the implementation of the project “Every Vote Matters!” with the support of the Democracy Promotion Foundation of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
