MIGRATION PROCESSES

As for Chernihiv region, our region is among the leaders in the number of illegal migrants and applications for refugee status. However, not everyone is granted the coveted status. Most illegal immigrants from Pakistan and Afghanistan do not want to stay here. They strive to get to developed European countries.

The head of the migration service department in Chernihiv region, Ivan Klanovets, says that about 300 people have applied for refugee status at the moment.

Currently, the flow of illegal immigrants in Chernihiv region has decreased. Experts say it is due to the crisis. Yes, Russia has also strengthened its borders with Asian countries. However, despite this, a temporary residence center for foreigners in the village of Rozsudiv has been operating in the Chernihiv region for 2 years.

The issues of journalistic responsibility and professional standards in covering migration and asylum issues, as well as preventing hate speech and manifestations of xenophobia were highlighted by the coordinator of the project “Without Borders” Maksym Butkevych and the analyst of the Congress of National Communities of Ukraine Vyacheslav Likhachev. In particular, the experts drew the attention of journalists to the problem of the use of hate speech by some media outlets, and also emphasized the need to counteract the activities of extremist groups that promote the ideas of xenophobia and racism.
