POLICE WITH THE PEOPLE!

The members of the Public Council will have enough work. The structure is primarily not to control every step of the police, but to provide law enforcement officers with assistance in solving social problems, while, of course, monitoring the observance of the law by the law enforcement officers themselves. Among other things, the plans include taking care of protecting the rights of those detained or suspected of committing crimes or offenses, protecting children and adolescents from various kinds of illegal actions against them, and much more. One of the promising points may, at first glance, surprise: the council envisages monitoring the observance of the legal rights and freedoms of police officers themselves. After all, they, although it is not customary to mention this, are full members of Ukrainian society.

An important feature of the Council’s activities should be the coverage not only of Chernihiv and the largest cities, but also of the entire territory of the region. For this purpose, regular trips to the districts of special mobile groups are provided.

The text of the meeting’s decision also included a thesis on ensuring effective interaction of Council members with heads of sectoral services and divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Department.

The participants of the meeting elected a new co-chairman who will manage the work of the Council together with the director of the Chernihiv Women’s Human Rights Center Alla LEPEKHA, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Department Valery NONIK was elected as him.

Also during the meeting, other urgent needs were discussed that may arise in the future in the work of the council.
