Protection and support for victims of gender-based violence in wartime

Despite the war and migration crisis, the level of domestic and gender-based violence in Ukraine and the Chernihiv region is increasing. Residents of rural, remote and border communities are in socio-economic and informational isolation and are particularly vulnerable to manifestations of domestic violence.
Local authorities, as of today, are not sufficiently capable or limited in their capabilities to respond effectively to these humanitarian and security challenges.
The Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights, within the framework of the “Capable and Strong” program, implemented by the Eastern Europe Foundation with the support of Switzerland, is implementing a project aimed at strengthening the efforts of various entities to combat gender-based violence (GBV) at the level of territorial communities of the Chernihiv region.
The main objectives of this initiative are:
– Comprehensive support for victims of gender-based violence at the local level
– Increasing awareness of the public and risk groups about the issues of gender-based violence and opportunities for receiving assistance
– Developing the potential of human rights and gender-oriented NGOs in Chernihiv region in the field of combating gender-based violence, protecting and restoring the rights of the affected population.
