Public activists and police learned to implement Community policing in Chernihiv

On September 8, Chernihiv hosted a training session titled “Community Policing: Cooperation between the Police and the Community,” which was attended by representatives of the public and the police. During the event, participants had the opportunity to learn about the experience of cooperation between the police and the community, both abroad and with projects currently being implemented in Ukraine. The training was conducted using examples of real successful actions by the public and administrative practice.
As noted by the event trainer, head of the program of the Expert Center for Human Rights Ulyana Shadska: “In order to develop specific mechanisms for interaction and communication between the police and the community, it is first necessary to form public priorities for the protection of public order through sociological research or a simple questionnaire.”
In addition, the training participants, together with police representatives, discussed the city’s pressing security problems in Chernihiv and developed ways to solve them by involving the community, police, and local governments in the problem.
“In accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On the National Police”, the main criterion for evaluating police activity is the trust of citizens. Therefore, today, cooperation between the police and the community, the implementation of joint projects, programs, and initiatives, joint patrols, and reception of citizens are very important in order to ensure the real security of the city and citizens in general,” Kateryna Dankova, a representative of the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights, emphasized during the event.
The event was organized by the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation and with the assistance of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Ukraine in Chernihiv region.
