Residents of Chernihiv region are concerned about violations of property rights

Problems in relations with the BTI, departments of land resources and architecture, violations of the rights of landowners, property relations in the family, housing and communal services problems – such issues most often concern residents of the Chernihiv region. This is evidenced by the results of monitoring by the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights within the framework of the project “Protection of property rights in the Chernihiv region through the implementation of local human rights initiatives” with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation.

According to the project manager Viktor Tarasov, due to the socio-economic crisis, bureaucratic and corruption obstacles, reorganization of bodies involved in the registration of property rights to real estate, citizens often turn to human rights defenders for help with the problems of registering rights of use or ownership of housing and land plots, problems of privatization of dormitories, combating illegal construction, etc. At the same time, rural residents most often have questions about the procedure for using land plots, leases and registration of inheritance.

In general, residents of Chernihiv region, especially villagers, complain about legal ignorance and the lack of qualified and accessible legal assistance.

As part of the project, free legal assistance is provided to citizens on the basis of the Center for Legal Information and Consultations, a series of active campaigns are carried out to disseminate information on problematic issues regarding the implementation of property rights, etc. Law students from local universities are actively involved in the work of the Center as volunteers.
