RIGHTS OF REFUGEES AND MIGRANTS


In particular, Dmytro Plechko highlighted changes in legislation and the procedure for determining refugee status, presenting the draft Law of Ukraine “On Refugees and Persons Deserving of Subsidiary and Temporary Protection in Ukraine”, and provided statistical data. Information was provided on the current state of refugees and asylum seekers in Ukraine, and the problems faced by refugees and measures to solve them were discussed. During the discussion, the issue of the procedure for obtaining refugee status in Ukraine was once again raised.



Representative of the State Department for Citizenship, Immigration and Registration of Individuals of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Serhiy Fedorchuk presented the Law of Ukraine “On Citizenship”.


The main topic of the speech of migration law expert Valery Ryabukha was the presentation of the draft Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons”. Valery Ryabukha made a report on the migration situation in Chernihiv region for eight months of 2006.


The seminar participants also watched a film about the situation of migrants in Ukraine.


The seminars were concluded by Dmytro Plechko, who provided UNHCR commentary on the draft EU/Ukraine readmission agreement.
