The Children’s Service of Chernihiv Region protects children and youth from human trafficking

A training on preventing and combating human trafficking was held in Chernihiv for specialists of the Children’s Service of the District State Administrations of Chernihiv Oblast.

The trainers of the event were representatives of the International Women’s Human Rights Center “La Strada – Ukraine”

Veronika Andreenkov

and

Kateryna Borozdina

.

During the training, the experts familiarized the participants, in particular, with the current legislation on the use of child labor, the negative impact of its worst forms on the health of children and adolescents, ways to combat the economic exploitation of children; informed about the types of labor migration and its consequences; considered all forms of slavery or practices similar to slavery, such as the sale and trafficking of children, forced or compulsory labour, including forced or compulsory recruitment of children for use in armed conflict, the use, procuring or offering of children for prostitution, the production of pornography or pornographic performances, and other illicit activities, particularly for the production and trafficking of drugs.

In particular, the trainers noted that all international agreements prohibit any work that, by its nature or the conditions in which it is carried out, is likely to harm the health, safety or morals of children.

– In the conditions of a difficult socio-economic situation, hostilities and forced internal migration, the Ukrainian population is increasingly likely to suffer from human trafficking, especially children who are in difficult living conditions

, – noted

Veronika Andreenkova

. –

Given the extreme vulnerability of orphans and children deprived of parental care, it is necessary to strengthen preventive and information work to combat human trafficking among this risk group. That is why the work of specialists from the children’s service of local administrations is important in this regard

The training was organized by the Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights with the support of the Democracy Promotion Foundation of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
