The Public Justice Center operates in the Chernihiv region

In the conditions of martial law and humanitarian crisis in the Chernihiv region, the Public Justice Center (PJC) continues its activities in the city of Chernihiv on the basis of the public organization “Chernihiv Public Committee for the Protection of Human Rights”, as well as the PJC branch in the city of Ichnya on the basis of the Ichnya District Court of the Chernihiv region.

The security situation in the Chernihiv region has remained difficult in recent months. Constant shelling, hostilities, evacuation of the population from the combat zone, and the movement of unaccompanied children lead to various legal challenges. Restoring documents, documenting property damage, and receiving compensation are far from all the issues that residents face.

Communities also need separate legal support, as the recovery process forces communities to provide social services to war victims and individuals/families who find themselves in difficult life circumstances.

That is why the Public Justice Center is a spatial platform where representatives of the judiciary, the state legal aid system (SLA), executive authorities, local government, and the public combine their efforts and resources to solve urgent legal problems at the community level of the cities of Chernihiv and Ichnya, in particular in the context of martial law in the country.

The services of the Public Justice Center are comprehensive and include primary legal aid, legal consultations, secondary legal aid in strategic cases, client referrals, mediation, facilitation of processes in communities, legal education, etc.

Special attention within the framework of the activities of the Public Justice Center is paid to solving problems and challenges in communities related to public safety, juvenile prevention, combating domestic violence, documenting war crimes, restoring infrastructure, receiving compensation and restitution for property lost or damaged as a result of military actions, in particular through the use of pre-trial and alternative dispute resolution methods, ensuring other legal needs of war victims and vulnerable segments of the population.
