The right to protest must be protected!

“The number of protests in Ukraine is growing every year. The demand from citizens for consultations and protection of this right in the courts, from the arbitrariness of the police, local administrations is also growing. Experts of the Initiative for Freedom of Peaceful Assembly are open and ready to help every citizen whose right to protest has been violated!” – says Volodymyr Chemerys, a human rights activist, one of the leaders of the All-Ukrainian initiative “For Peaceful Protest!”.

is a non-governmental, non-partisan public movement that was formed in 2011 with the goal of protecting the right to freedom of peaceful assembly in Ukraine.

Today, thanks to the wide-ranging activities of the Initiative, it unites around itself 138 organizations that have been dealing with the issues of peaceful assembly or exercising the right to protest for many years. Initiative activists have collected more than 18 thousand signatures in defense of freedom of peaceful assembly in Ukraine. Activists have held dozens of round tables in regional centers of the country, starting a dialogue with the authorities on the importance of the fundamental right of people to peaceful assembly. Experts conduct monthly training events in the regions and conduct consultations on freedom of peaceful assembly. Initiative experts defend public activists in courts regarding the right to freedom of peaceful assembly. Out of 100% of lawsuits considered by the initiative experts, 99% of cases were won.
