Almost 80% of women: domestic violence rate increased in Chernihiv region

Over 11 thousand complaints about domestic violence were recorded in the Chernihiv region during 2023. This is 12% more than in 2022. Compared to 2021, the number of applications has almost not changed.

The Department of Family, Youth and Sports of the Regional State Administration reports this on its website.

The largest number of applications — 78% — came from women, the remaining 22% — from men and children.

“Almost five thousand people who committed domestic violence are on the preventive register of law enforcement agencies. In total, more than 6.5 thousand urgent prohibitory orders were issued against violators in 2023. 101 families are under social support,” the message says.

As of the beginning of 2024, 65 children who have experienced domestic violence are registered with the Children’s Service. Appropriate work was carried out with their families aimed at protecting the rights of the child from violence.

Today, 45 specialized support services for victims operate in the region – two day centers for socio-psychological assistance with a “crisis room”, six specialized primary counseling services and 37 mobile assistance teams.

“During January 2024, 1,230 people (850 adults and 380 children) used the services of this network. In particular, mobile teams provided more than 900 services,” the Department of Family, Youth and Sports reports.
