Over 68 thousand IDPs registered in the region: the largest number of IDPs is in Chernihiv district

In order to comprehensively ensure their rights and interests, social protection, employment, and provision of psychosocial, medical, and legal assistance in the region, the Council on Internally Displaced Persons under the Regional State Administration has been operating for almost a year.

The results of the Council’s work were recently reported by its chairwoman, Olga Dzerzhynska, at a meeting of the Coordination Headquarters for Ensuring the Implementation of the Rights and Freedoms of Internally Displaced Persons. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, Iryna Vereshchuk.

The Council under the Chernihiv Regional State Administration includes representatives of IDPs, public organizations, and structural divisions of the Regional State Administration. The advisory body cooperates with public organizations and international partners.

An important area of activity of the Council is providing IDPs with temporary housing. By order of the head of the OVA in November last year, a list of places of temporary residence in the Chernihiv region was approved. It includes 9 such places, designed for 1,428 beds.

“By the way, our citizens who have lost their homes have the opportunity not to move anywhere, but to stay and live on their territory – thanks to cooperation with international donors, a modular house can also be installed on private plots,” emphasized Zhanna Sherstyuk, Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration, who, together with the Deputy Director of the Department of Social Protection of the Population of the Regional State Administration Dmitry Kozlov, took part in the meeting of the Coordination Headquarters.

Among the tasks of the newly created body is the integration of IDPs into the communities to which they have moved, and cooperation with local authorities. As well as assistance to IDPs in matters of employment and job placement.

In addition, each RVA has its own council on IDP issues and 11 – in territorial communities (Prylutsk, Novgorod-Siversk, Malodivytsk, Varvynsk, Ladansk, Kiptivsk, Snovsk, Mensk, Ponornytsk, Mrynsk and Makiivsk TG).
