Over 200,000 domestic violence reports annually—and that’s only the cases we know about

(Call to Action).

Ось професійний та природний переклад для сайту:

This is why discussing violence cannot be put off until “some other time”—it must be done systematically within communities, schools, and libraries. Crucially, it means engaging with different audiences using a tailored approach.

We recently conducted three consecutive awareness-raising events in the Mena community of the Chernihiv region, with each session focusing on a specific audience and theme.

  • At the Kukovytsia branch of the Mena Public Library, we spoke with adults about how to recognize domestic violence, why it never resolves “on its own,” and where to seek help. We also tackled common myths—such as the misconception that alcohol is the root cause of violence (it is not) or that leaving an abusive relationship is “easy.” In reality, the dynamics are far more complex, which is precisely why external support is so vital.
  • For 9th-grade students at the Mena Secondary School (named after T.G. Shevchenko), the focus shifted to gender equality and stereotypes. The teenagers discussed how notions of “female” and “male” roles are constructed, and why these stereotypes can limit personal choices and opportunities. We also explored how gender-based violence stems directly from inequality and discrimination.
  • With 8th-grade students, we focused on foundational yet critical concepts: respect, personal boundaries, and safety. What is violence? How do you recognize it? Why is feeling uncomfortable already a sufficient signal that something is wrong? Most importantly, we mapped out what to do and whom to contact if you or someone next to you is in danger.
