Since the beginning of 2025, the number of reports of domestic violence has increased in Chernihiv

On March 21, 2025, a meeting of the Coordination Council under the Chernihiv City Council on the prevention and counteraction to domestic violence and gender-based violence was held. 

The meeting of the Coordination Council was chaired by Deputy Mayor Victoria Pekur. The meeting was attended by representatives of the following departments of the City Council: education; health care; family, youth and sports; (service) for children; of the city center of social services and the department of social policy, as well as representatives of the department of family, youth and sports of the regional regional administration, the department of education and science of the regional regional administration, law enforcement agencies, courts, public organizations, case managers of the Department of Family, Youth and Sports of the National Social Security Administration and other services whose work is aimed at the social protection of the rights of the family, children and women.

According to the department of family, youth and sports of the city council, since the beginning of the year, the department has received 347 reports of domestic violence, which indicates an increase in the number of applications regarding domestic violence and an increase in citizens’ awareness, because victims have become more likely to seek help from the police and general services providing assistance to victims of domestic and/or gender-based violence.

At a meeting of the Coordination Council actively discussed the problems of implementing the Correctional Program for perpetrators of domestic violence, and also approved the Joint Action Plan to Prevent and Combat Domestic Violence and Gender-Based Violence for 2025.
