The Coordination Council discussed the issues of preventing and combating domestic violence and gender-based violence
On November 29, a meeting of the Coordination Council on the prevention and counteraction to domestic violence and gender-based violence was held in the premises of the training center based on Chernihiv Gymnasium No. 7.
The meeting of the Coordination Council was chaired by Deputy Mayor Victoria Pekur. The meeting was attended by representatives of the city council departments: education, healthcare, family affairs, youth and sports, children’s affairs, the city center of social services and the social policy department, as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies, public organizations and other services whose work is aimed at the social protection of the rights of the family, children and women.
According to the city council’s family, youth and sports department, the department received 1,557 reports of domestic violence during the first 11 months of 2024. This indicates an increase in the number of complaints about domestic violence and an increase in citizen awareness, as victims have become more likely to seek help from the police and other services that provide assistance to victims of domestic and/or gender-based violence. About 84% of all reports came from women — 1,307. 219 reports came from men, 31 from minors.
At the meeting of the Coordination Council, problems were actively discussed regarding improving areas of work on social and psychological support for victims, as well as the algorithm and establishment of interaction between subjects when responding to cases of domestic violence in the city of Chernihiv.
